Welcome to the Wyoming Area Scholarship Information Website!

This Website and Application forms are for use only by Wyoming Area Graduating Seniors in the Class of 2022 including students in the Wyoming Area Cyber School who will receive a Wyoming Area Diploma. 

We are updating the website for the Class of 2022. We will be adding new scholarships as soon as they are developed. Check the Requirements, then look at the Scholarship Details to read more about the scholarships that interest you. Start working on your essays!

Below is a listing of each scholarship and the requirements to apply.  Please click the SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS link to the left for a listing of each scholarship and the back story behind each one.  Each scholarship has its own unique story on how they came about and a lot of time has gone into the preparation of these scholarships to benefit our WASD students and families. Scholarship Requirements 

A completed application packet for each scholarship for which you are applying must be handed to Mrs. Rabel by 2:30 on Wednesday January 12, 2022.  NO EXCEPTIONS! Each packet must include the completed application form, references, resume, labeled essay (name of scholarship and your name or 3 initials – only first, middle and last name initials for Kaufer & Speicher Scholarships), 1 recommendation letter , acceptance letter, and appropriate addendum forms. 

Paper clip each scholarship packet individually (DO NOT staple) and attach a post-it note stating the name of the scholarship to each packet. 

One Complete Packet with a signed cover sheet is also due to Mrs. Rabel in the guidance office by Wednesday, January 12, 2022 by 2:30 pm.  If you are not having classes in the school at this time, be sure to call Mrs. Rabel (570-655-2836 ext.2339) at the high school and make an appointment to hand in your applications. Call her a week ahead to be sure your applications are in on time.   

 Each COMPLETE APPLICATION must include: 

o    The signed completed cover sheet listing the total # of scholarship, 

o    The completed general application form, 

o    Labeled essays (All essays of the scholarships you applied for), 

o    Resume, 

o    References, 

o    Recommendation letter(s), 

o    School/college acceptance letter and 

o    Appropriate addendum forms required for scholarships that you applied. 

 

NOTE: DEADLINE for ALL Military Awards that require official commitment papers is by March 31, 2022. No exceptions.

This includes: the American Legions from Exeter, West Pittston and Wyoming; and the Wyoming VFW. Submit only the American Legion Addendum and your Official Commitment papers. The official commitment papers must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel by March 31, 2022. 

This also includes the Exeter VFW Military Scholarship for Wyoming Area graduating seniors who are entering the Military or any Wyoming Area graduating seniors who have a parent or step-parent who have served in the military and any who are in active duty in the military.  These awards will need the entire WA Scholarship Application, the Exeter VFW Addendum completed and the required essay. 

 

Selection will be made by March 31, 2021 by the appropriate scholarship committees.

Gail A. Abromovage Memorial Scholarship

CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a Wyoming Area graduating senior who will be continuing their education after graduation. All majors will be considered, however preference will be given to those seniors pursuing a career in Cosmetology or to those attending a trade/technical school. Her family is looking for an applicant who like Gail was loving, determined, hardworking & kind.

REQUIREMENTS: In a solid essay of at least 500 words select TWO of the following prompts. Include which two you selected in the first sentence of your essay.

PROMPTS:

  1. Why did you choose to select the career you will be pursuing post-graduation?
  2. What traits about “Mrs. A” were you impressed with? Why?
  3. What traits about “Mrs. A” do you see in yourself? Explain using examples.
  4. Why should we select you to be the recipient of this scholarship? 

 

Bobby Acacio Arts & Science Scholarship  

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior with great passion for arts (music, history, literature, visual or performing arts) AND sciences (including engineering and mathematics) who plans on attending a certificate program, trade or technical school, community college, or a 2 - 4 year college or university.  

Submission Required: Choose one of the following formats for your submission: 

  1. Written (12 pt. font, double spaced, min. one page, can be an essay, narrative, recipe, song, poem, etc.)

  2. Video (minimum 2 minutes)      Complete the Acacio Addendum!

  3. PowerPoint (min. 10 slides), or any other appropriate work of expression.   Complete the Acacio Addendum!

Criteria for submissions: 

  • Fully depicts a well-rounded person

  • Clearly answers one of the provided prompt questions 

Prompts: Select one and indicate which in your reply format. 

  1. Who from history would you like to have breakfast with? And why?

  2. The saying goes, “Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.” How does this saying relate to you? 

  3. Sir Isaac Newton said of his work and discoveries, “If I have seen a little further than others, it is by standing on the shoulder of giants.” Whose shoulders are you standing on and what do you see? 

 

Samuel Agolino Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a deserving, successful Wyoming Area graduating senior who took their educational opportunities seriously and plans to attend a 2 or 4 year trade, technical college/university. The Agolino family are looking for a senior who is willing to help those in time of need, one who is generous, knows the difference between right and wrong and can laugh from time to time.  

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us: Why is it important to you to receive this scholarship? Who is your role model and why? Explain what your college expectations are and what you will major in? What is the rule that guides your life and explain why?  

Anthony and Eleanor Angeli Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is a resident of West Pittston and has been accepted to a 4 year college or university. 

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words indicate your ambitions, intentions and reason for applying for this scholarship.

 

The Richard B. Anselmi Memorial Scholarship

REQUIREMENTS: Any senior who applies for the Exeter Lion’s/John Campbell Memorial Scholarship will automatically be considered for The Richard B. Anselmi Memorial Scholarship. No application is needed!

Ettore Anselmi who is offering this scholarship in memory of his brother Richard B. Anselmi has designated this scholarship to be an add on to the Exeter Lions Scholarship. It is based on the criteria which are listed in the description of the Exeter Lions/John B. Campbell Scholarship.

Thus one recipient will be selected and will be awarded the Exeter Lions/John B. Campbell Scholarship currently of $1000 plus The Richard B. Anselmi Memorial Scholarship of $1000 for a combined total of $2000. The Exeter Lions Scholarship selection committee will make the final selection for the recipient of these two scholarships.

 

Maureen McHugh Aritz Women’s Business Memorial Scholarship 

Applicants for this scholarship must be female, graduating Wyoming Area seniors, who have an interest in studying some aspect of business and who have been accepted to a 4 year college or university. 

 Essay Required: Each applicant must submit a solid essay of at least 500 words telling why you deserve this award. In this essay tell us about any unique community involvement, business experiences and how you see yourself possessing traits/qualities very similar to Maureen.

 

Richard G. Belza Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area Graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade, technical school, a community college or a 2 or 4 year college or university. Preference will be given to those who will be studying law enforcement, criminal justice or a related area. Other majors may be considered. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us why you feel you deserve this award. In your essay tell us about how you may have helped a younger person and how you made a difference in their life. Be as specific as you want and include multiple examples, if available. Also, please mention briefly what subject of higher learning you are going to pursue and why. Good Luck!

 

Kelley Best Biagioli & James Biagioli Scholarship 

Criteria:  Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior accepted into a 4 year college or technical school.

Essay Required:  In a solid essay of at least 500 words, write an essay from one of the following prompts:

  1. Describe an activity that you participate in that gives back to the community and how it makes you feel.
  2. Describe what are your future goals and aspirations to further your education.
  3. Describe a time when you needed to be brave and overcome an obstacle.

  

John Jude Bolin Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is a well-rounded student with community involvement and proven academic success and has been accepted to a certificate program, trade or technical school, community college, or 2 or 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to someone active in community service such as a volunteer for the library, church, school, youth sports, fire fighter, EMS or ambulance attendant.  

Since John dedicated so much of his time to his community, church and our school district, special ATTENTION will be given to applicant’s ACTIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE and it will be closely looked at during the selection process. Be sure to note your service in your essay and resume.   

Essay required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, tell the selection committee how your community service has impacted/influenced your life. Also include why you should receive the John Jude Bolin Memorial Scholarship.

  

John Anthony “Beno” Borzell Scholarship 

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior scholar athlete accepted into a four year Baccalaureate degree program majoring in Environmental Science or a related science. 

 Essay Required: In at least 500 words write a solid essay on the following topic: Why should you receive the John Anthony “Beno” Borzell Memorial Scholarship.

 

The “Inspiration Lizzie” Scholarship

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Breznay, Wyoming Area Class of 2019

All applicants will be equally considered by “Team Lizzie” which would include Lizzie’s parents, her aunt, and of course, Lizzie herself.

CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is planning to attend a Trade or Technical School, a Community College or a 2 or 4 year College or University.

ESSAY REQUIREMENT: Applicants for this scholarship need to submit a solid ORIGINAL essay of at least 500 words detailing why you should be considered for and potentially become our FIRST recipient of “The Inspiration Lizzie Scholarship.”

The strength of the applicant pool will dictate how many awards will be presented.

 

 

Jacob "Jake" Busch Memorial Scholarship

CRITERIA:  Applicants to this scholarship must be Wyoming Area graduating seniors who plan on attending a trade or technical school, a community college or a 2 or 4 year college/ university.

REQUIREMENTS: Carefully read over this statement and incorporate it into your essay: Jacob always strove to help those around him and the recipient of this award must be prepared to examine, elaborate and expand on this simple tenet.

 

We are looking for a student interested in some form of public service, be it the military, law enforcement, criminal justice, first responders, etc. We are looking for an applicant who intends on embarking on a career which serves others.

ESSAY: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, select from the following prompts. Indicate which one you have selected by including it in the first sentence of your essay.

  1. What influenced you in the career choice you have made?
  2. If Jake touched your life in any way, tell us how he did and how it has affected your life.
  3. What part of Jake’s story affected you so that you decided to apply for this particular Scholarship? Tell us how and why.

  

Butchko Family Scholarship – King’s College 

How to qualify: Wyoming Area graduating seniors who have been accepted to King’s College become part of a pool for this merit based award. You do NOT need to complete the Wyoming Area Scholarship Application to qualify for this scholarship. The selection is made by King’s College.

  

Exeter Lions John B. Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who resides in Exeter or any Wyoming Area senior whose parent or grandparent is a member of the Exeter Lions Club and has been accepted to a trade School, technical college, community college 2 or 4 year college/university. Financial need will be considered.

The recipient of this scholarship will also receive the Richard B. Anselmi Memorial Scholarship.

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words indicate your ambitions, intentions and reason for applying for this scholarship.

James & Rosemary Campenni Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who resides in West Pittston. Preference will be given to athletes who have participated in at least one full year of a varsity sport during his/her junior or senior year. The applicant must continue their post-secondary education, following the year graduated, at a four year accredited college.

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words each applicant must include a personal statement (which can be the one sent to colleges with the applicant's applications for admission). 

An interview may be conducted of selected applicants.

 

Concetta & David Carey Sr. Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who plans on continuing their education after graduation. All majors will be considered for seniors who have been accepted into a certificate program, trade or technical school, community college, or a 2 or 4 year college/university. The applicant must hold a part-time job. Financial need will be considered. 

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words: select one of the topics below – identify the question you are answering in the first line of the essay. 

1. State any special personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance. 

2. Select a specific experience in your life and explain how it has influenced your development. 

3.  Explain how having a part-time job now will help you in your career goals after college.

 

Claire H. Carr Memorial Scholarship

The Carr scholarship selection committee will select the most outstanding graduating Wyoming Area Senior, who has been accepted into a college, university, or nursing school with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse, or a clinical practitioner in another related health care-related field.

REQUIRED ESSAY:

In a solid essay of at least 500 words, explain why you are applying for this scholarship. Why do you believe you are worthy of being selected.

 SELECT 2 ESSAYS from these 3 choices. In a solid essay of at least 500 words reply to both. In the first sentence of each essay identify the prompt that you selected.

  1. Explain any personal or family circumstances affecting your need for educational financial assistance.
  2. Claire’s role models in her life were her beloved parents. Explain who has been a role model in your life, and why.
  3. Claire had a very strong work ethic her entire life. Explain how you have benefited from such and how having part-time employment while in high school, has prepared you for your future.

 

Matthew Chipolis Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be graduating WA senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or a trade school program of higher learning or specialized education. 

Essay Required: In an original written statement of at least 500 words, relating a personal example of how he/she has provided support to the community and how he/she has helped a peer experiencing difficult circumstances. Explain why this situation was important and how this expression of empathy and responsiveness made you feel.

An interview may be conducted of selected applicants.

  

Stephen Chipolis Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior athlete who plans on attending a certificate program, a trade, technical school, community college, or a 2 - 4 year college or university. 

Essay Required: Choose one of the following essay prompts, and write a solid essay in at least 500 word. Identify the prompt you selected in the first line of your essay. 

1.   State any special personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance. 

2.   Select an experience from your own life and explain how it influenced your development. 

3.   Describe an experience where you were UNSUCCESSFUL in reaching your goal. What lessons did you learn from this experience? 

 

The Wyoming Area Football Association Alumni/Ring of Pride: Al and Lou F. Ciampi Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship will be awarded to WA senior football players selected by the WA Football Association Alumni selection committee.  

 

The Mayor Joseph F. Coyne III Memorial Scholarship

 Applicants must be Wyoming Area graduating seniors residing in Exeter Borough. Applicants must be planning on attending a community college, a two or four year college or university. Preference will be given to those applicants who plan on pursuing a career in public administration, political science, general government or a career in the military. Other related majors may be considered.

Sarah J. Dymond Elementary School Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has attended the Sarah J. Dymond School at some point in his/her education while a student in the Wyoming Area School District plans on continuing their education after graduation.

Essay required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us your favorite experience at Sarah J Dymond Elementary School that has left an impression on you or impacted your life.

 

 

KEEP MACHINING IN AMERICA 

THE DONALD & BARBARA EIFERT/

DON’S MACHINE SHOP SCHOLARSHIP

REQUIREMENTS: Must have an active application on file with Johnson College for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) 510 hour class. Application can be found at https://johnson.edu/continuingeducation/. Click on 510 Computer Numerical Control (CNC) at Don’s Machine Shop.

Financial need may be considered. But most important is the sincere desire to enroll in this program. This scholarship will be paid directly to Johnson College by the Eifert family. Value is $7,500.00

CRITERIA: Applicants will be interviewed by an Eifert Selection Committee headed by Don Eifert, Jr, Erica Eifert and anyone else they select from the business. Applicants are encouraged to bring their parents to the interview with them. The Eifert Selection Committee will make the final selection for third award.

  

Exeter American Legion Post 833 Lt. Adam Kalmanowicz Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship is sponsored by the Exeter American Legion Post 833 Lt Adam Kalmanowicz. Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has handed in official commitment papers for any branch of the military service to Mrs. Rabel. Full time Active Duty will receive $500; National Guard / Reserves will receive $250. Selection will be based on the applicant with the second highest QPA of the pool of service committed seniors. 

Required: Complete only American Legion Page for this application and attach a copy of your official ENLISTMENT papers as proof of your commitment to the branch of the armed service which you have joined.  American Legion Addendum form must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel April 3rd .  Enlistment papers can be handed in up to the end of March.

Exeter VFW Post #6518 Military Service Award

There are 2 parts of this award:

  1. This award is for a Wyoming Area graduating senior whose parent or step-parent is an active member of the US Armed Services or was a member of the US Armed Services (pages 1 & 2). A complete application packet for this award.
  2. Any Wyoming Area graduating senior who is committed to any branch of the service may also apply for this award using only the 3rd page of this addendum with their official commitment attached.

The addendum is on the WA Scholarship Website under DOWNLOADS - Application.

 

Fallen Warrior Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college or a 4 year college/university.

 Essay Required: The families of the Fallen Warriors have been forced to overcome unbearable hardships due to their loss. In a solid essay of at least 500 words, write about an obstacle you have faced and overcome in your life.

  

Donald Fetsko Memorial Scholarship 

Candidates for the Donald Fetsko Memorial Scholarship are: individuals who are Wyoming Area graduating seniors, who have been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.  Preference will be given to those candidates who have participated in varsity Track or Basketball, or have had consistent part time jobs after school.  The Donald Fetsko selection committee will make the final decision for the award. 

Required essay:  In a solid essay of at least 500 words, please explain your ambitions, challenges that you may have faced, and why you are applying for this scholarship.

 

Barry P. Finn Memorial Scolarship

Applicants must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted as a full time student at a 4 year college/university to pursue a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) major. Other majors will also be considered. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate interest in pursuing degrees in environmental sciences related to global climate, broadly defined. Also to be considered are applicants planning to attend a community college, 2 year college, or as a part time student. Applicants from underrepresented groups in STEM are highly encouraged to apply.

CRITERIAApplicants to this scholarship must be Wyoming Area graduating seniors who plan on attending a community college, a 2 or 4 year college/university. Course rigor, clear and concise essays, and potential for success in STEM will be considered.

Required: A letter of recommendation from a Wyoming Area STEM teacher addressing the applicant’s potential for success. An additional letter of recommendation can be included if one is available.

Essays Required: Must be: typed, single space, Arial 11 pt, 0.5” margins and be of at least 500 words. Select two (2) essays from the following 3 prompts and indicate which prompt you chose in the first sentence of each essay.

1.      Describe your background, interests, and career goals. Discuss your chosen school and describe the STEM program and opportunities for undergraduate research. How will this scholarship help you achieve your goals? If attending a community college, 2 year college, or as a part time student please clearly state your reason and describe your plan and timeline to complete a 4 year degree in STEM. (500 words min)

2.      Describe a problem you've solved or a problem of personal importance you'd like to solve. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution. (500 words min)

3.      Describe a current environmental issue that is impacting the world (e.g., pollution, climate change, fossil fuels, intensive farming). Discuss an idea that you have to address this environmental issue. How would you implement your idea in the real world? Discuss any challenges to implementation and how those challenges can be overcome, e.g., lack of current technologies. Remember, no idea is too small. Include a minimum of two (2) citations that you used to research and write this essay, e.g., website, magazine, library book. (500 words min)

 

 

Atty. Charles J. Giacometti Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating student who has been accepted to a 4 Year College/University. 

Essay Required: Write a solid essay of 500 words or more. Please tell the scholarship committee some things about yourself, your strengths and leadership skills by discussing extracurricular activities, community or volunteer work and awards. Show the committee that you are deserving of this scholarship and will use the funds wisely to support your education.  Please do not use any of the information that was already covered in the application.

 

Harry J. Giacometti Memorial Scholarship 

CRITERIA for SELECTION: It is the hope of his family that the applicants for this award which was first offered in 2019 will come to know Mr. Giacometti through this scholarship. Through his example he encouraged his children and grandchildren and all the students who passed through his classroom to be kind, caring and to do well. In his memory Harry’s wife and children are offering this $500 scholarship to a Wyoming Area graduating senior who will be attending a 4 year college or university. All majors will be considered. 

REQUIREMENTS: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, choose one of the following and tell the selection committee your thoughts. Identify your choice in the first line of your essay. 

  1. Mr. Giacometti was revered and respected by many of his students, tell us what makes you respect a good teacher. How has such a teacher impacted your life?

  2. Mr. Giacometti loved teaching. Tell us about something you enjoy doing? Be specific.

  3.  Mr. Giacometti was a wonderful positive role model for his students. Tell us about a situation where you were a positive role model and what was the outcome?

  4.  Mr. Giacometti was a kind, caring person. He encouraged his children, grandchildren and the many students who passed through his classroom to be kind, caring and to do well. Who has played a similar role in your life and cite examples of how this has impacted your behavior. 

Ivo and Tosca Giannini Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior with the highest scholastic average for 4 years (Grades 9, 10, 11 & 12) who resides in West Wyoming. No Application needed.

 

Stephanie Godri-Johnston Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 88 and accepted at a 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to a student who is currently competing in either (or both) Track & Field or Cross Country and has been doing so for at least the last two consecutive years. The candidate must also participate in some form of volunteer activity that benefits others.

Essay Required: All candidates must complete a solid essay of at least 500 words discussing the following: 
What challenges have you encountered and how did you handle them? How were you able to implement a balance between school work, volunteer activities, sports, job and social life?

An interview will be conducted of selected applicants.

 

Dave Graboski Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been successful in high school and who plans on attending a 2 or 4 year college/university. Financial Need will be considered. ALL Majors will be considered.

REQUIREMENTS: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, select one of the following prompts and indicate which one you selected in the first sentence of your essay:

  1. Tell us about a volunteer experience you have had in your community and how did it influence your behavior.

  2. Why did you select this specific scholarship to apply for?

  3. What one trait of Dave’s do you feel you possess. Tell us what it is and how you feel you developed it.

  4. Dave was a kind, caring, helpful person. Tell us about a person in your life like Dave and how has that person influenced you. Give specific examples.

  5. Dave was very proud of his heritage. Tell us about your heritage and why you are proud of it OR what makes you proud of your heritage. 

Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to ANY accredited post-secondary programs. This includes but is not limited to apprenticeship programs, vocational, trade or technical school, and 2or 4-year College/University. 

Essay required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, in your own words describe how a business or businesses in the Greater Pittston Business Community impacted your future plans; what you intend to study; and how your choices can help the future of our business community.

 

Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating female senior who has been accepted to ANY accredited post-secondary programs. This includes but is not limited to apprenticeship programs, vocational, trade or technical school, and 2or 4-year College/University. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, how has your involvement in your community promoted a good image of the Greater Pittston Area?

 

Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Annual Scholarship 

This annual scholarship is awarded to a Wyoming Area graduating senior of verified Irish decent. A separate application is needed for this scholarship. See Mrs. Rabel in the guidance office for this scholarship application. She will announce when the applications for available.

 

Andrew A. Griglock Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college/university.  Applicants should have been an active member of a Wyoming Area group or a community group (music or athletics) for at least two years during high school. Two scholarships will be given: 1 for music and 1 for athletics.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 word explain the role that music/athletics has played in your life. How have you shared this with others (especially how you may have used your experiences in these areas to enrich the lives of those around you)?

 

Leonard C. Insalaco II Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college or 4 year college/university. Student and/or Parent/Guardian must be an active regular or junior member of a rescue/fire/ambulance group in the Wyoming Area communities.

Larinda Kaufer Family Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has had to overcome specific challenges in order to graduate from high school. We are looking for students who may have faced learning disabilities, physical challenges or obstacles in their lives. The scholarship is to assist with the costs associated with the student’s studies in a training program, vocational, trade or technical school, 2 or 4 year college or university of the applicant’s choice. Recipient must be known to show consideration and respect to the students, faculty and administrators in their school and community. All majors will be considered.

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words explain how you have coped with your challenges. Tell us about your future goals and how you can be an advocate based on your own experiences to encourage and support others. Larinda recognizes the importance and value of all students and that everyone should have the opportunity to further their education and advocate for others.

Mark J. Kleback Memorial “Outstanding Thespian” Award

Wyoming Area graduating seniors who want to be considered for this award, must complete the Kleback Award page which has listed the specific criteria for this award. Then have Mr. Chuck Yarmey or Kate Mangan sign the form, and give a completed copy to Mrs. Rabel (Guidance Secretary). Applicants must have been inducted into the WA Thespian Society.

 

Sgt. Donald F. LaSota, Jr. Honorary Military Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who is interested in joining military service upon graduation AND / OR is an active volunteer in the community (activities such as Scouts, Key Club, Student Council, etc.) If you are enlisting in the service, be sure to state the military branch you are joining and you should provide a copy of your commitment papers.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words: select one of the topics below – identify the question you are answering in the first line of the essay:

  1. Tell us about a member of your family or unrelated mentor who has served in the military. Explain how their military experience has influenced your decision to join the military. 

  2. What is your general opinion of people in the military?

Carl C. Luchetti Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted into trade school, technical college, community college 2 or 4 years college/university. Financial need may be considered. An interviewed may be part of the selection process.

Essay Required: In at least 500 words, select one of the topics below – identify the question you are answering in the first line of the essay:

  1. What influenced you to select this particular scholarship to apply for over the many others offered through this program?

  2. After reading the description of this scholarship, what traits do you have in common with Carl and how will you use those traits in your future endeavors?

MARRONE-CRISTIN SCHOLARSHIP 

This scholarship is for any Wyoming Area graduating senior who will be attending a 4 year college or university and who will be majoring in the medical field or technology. However other majors will be considered.  Special consideration will be given to students identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community.  

ESSAY: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, respond to the first prompt as well as one of the additional prompt choices listed below.

1. Joey and David attribute much of their success to their resilience and grit. What is a difficult hardship you have endured as a student or are currently going through now as a student? How did you persevere through it or how you are currently handling the situation? What did you learn from this experience? (Required)

2. Who are you? Why should we select you? What makes you so wildly different from the other applicants?

Michael McClernon Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has used his/her musical talents in a way similar to Michael. Preference will be given to musical talent but other related talents will also be considered. The recipient will be a student who represents the entire Wyoming Area student body and should be well-rounded with school and community involvement with at least an average academic record and who will be attending a trade, technical, 2 or 4 year college or university.

Essay Required: In at least 500 words, tell us how your life is similar to Michael McClernon's to include why you should be awarded this scholarship.

 

Dolores McHugh Boys/Girls Basketball Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating member of the Wyoming Area boys’/girls’ basketball team who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college 2 or 4 year college/university.

Ruth Boorom Melberger Scholarship

How to qualify: Wyoming Area graduating seniors who have been accepted to Wilkes University become part of a pool for this award which is based on financial need. You do not need to complete the Wyoming Area Scholarship Application to qualify for this scholarship. The selection is done at Wilkes University.

 

Dr. Joseph A. Miller Jr. Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted as a full time student at a 4 Year College/University who will study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or the teaching of STEM. Applicant may attend a 2 or 4 year college: if attending a 2 year school the reason must be clearly stated in the essay.

Criteria for selection: GPA (Cumulative 9, 10, 11, 12); ACT or SAT scores; Course Rigor will also be considered.

Required: In addition to the application packet also complete the Dr. Miller Page to apply for this scholarship. 

Two (2) Typed Essays are Required: 

Required Essays: Complete the following essays in at least 500 words. Both must be typed, signed and dated by the applicant.  

  1. Explain why the college selected was a good choice for you; why did you pick STEM and what do you intend to do with your degree. 

  2. Describe an experience in your life that helped shape or define your personal characteristics, values and beliefs. Possible characteristics could include leadership, creativity, risk-taking, honesty, perseverance, loyalty, generosity, optimistic attitude, etc.

 

Marc E. Minichello Memorial Scholarship

Two $1022.00 scholarships are being offered to Wyoming Area graduating seniors who are planning to attend a trade, technical, community college or a four year college or university. A committee selected by the Marc E. Minichello family will make the final selection for this award. An interview may be part of this process.

Moose Lodge #1207 Governors Award

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has participated in a sport or cheerleading during their senior year if possible or unavailable due to pandemic. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative non-weighted QPA (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12) of 80 or above and has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college, 2 or 4 year college/university. 

Requirements: Complete only the Moose Application Page to apply for this award. This form must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel.

The Nelson Family Trust Scholarships 

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted as a full time student at a 4 Year College/University. Selection will be based on the students’ overall academic performance. Several scholarships will be awarded to qualifying Wyoming Area Seniors. 

Criteria for Selection: Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted as a full time student at a 4 Year College/University. Selection will be based on the following:

  1. Completed application
  2. Overall academic performance.
  3. Required essays (2) 
  4. Required Interview
  5. Required submission of EFC (Expected Family Contribution) from your FAFSA Application.

Essay Required: Each applicant is required to write 2 well-crafted essays (at least 500 words each):

  1. Stating the reason for their interest in the targeted area of study (STEM), how they intend to use their education in the future and what receiving the scholarship would mean to them.
  2. To be determined.

** In addition to the essay the applicant must provide the nominating committee a statement of what the expected family contribution (EFC) to their education should be as determined by their FAFSA application.

 

James ‘Jamie’ Oliveri Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or university or a legitimate non degree Professional School for the Arts. Preference will be given to those pursuing degrees in Graphic Design (online and multimedia applications, interactive design, typography, page layout, produce design, publishing applications and advertising), Fine Arts (sculpture, painting, drawing and photography), Architecture or an Arts related field. Preference will also be given to an applicant who has personal characterizes and traits similar to Jamie.

Required Essay: Each applicant must submit a solid essay of at least 500 words explaining why you think you deserve this scholarship. What are your future goals and ambitions? What interests you about this field and what attributes do you share with Jamie?

 

Pace Transportation "Warrior Pride" Awards

The recipients of the Bausch & Lomb Award, Humanities/Social Studies Award, and Rensselaer Award will receive $250 each.

M. Elaine Panzitta Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship is intended to encourage a student to explore the world and himself or herself through academic studies and to assist in directing his or her energies toward a career of service to others. It will be awarded to a Wyoming Area graduating senior intending to pursue higher education and planning to major in one or more of the following areas of study: social work; psychology; philosophy; the arts; architecture or law.  Finalists may be interviewed for this scholarship. 

The M. Elaine Panzitta Memorial Scholarship Selection Committee will select the candidate for this award. 

 REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet the following CHALLENGE with an original written presentation. Your essay should explain: HOW you plan to accomplish your project. WHY you selected this specific project. and WHAT do you foresee is the benefit to society. 

A word count is not required or limited. READ CAREFULLY! A generic general essay used for other scholarship applications will not work.  

CHALLENGEYou are asked to design a community project that would bring the most benefit to all. What would the project be and what would be the goals for the project? Why did you select this specific initiative?  (See the Wyoming Area Scholarship Website Scholarship Details for more information & examples.) Be sure to explain “HOW” you would accomplish your project in detail and “WHY” you chose this project and “WHAT” benefit(s) to society! You do not have to actually do the project.

  

Michael B. Pedley Memorial Scholarship  

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted full or part time to a Trade School, Technical College, Community College, 2 or 4 Year College/University. Financial need will be considered.

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words describe your future goals and explain how education will play a key role in attaining those goals. What makes you smile and how do you make others smile. Be sure to complete the Wyoming Area Financial Statement found in Downloads - addendums.

 

Michael L. Pesta Memorial UFCW Community FCU Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted full or part time in the business field at a Technical College, Community College,  2 or 4 year College/University.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, indicate your ambitions, intentions and reasons for applying for this scholarship.  

 

Francis A. Pineno and Joanne Nelson Pineno (deceased) Scholarships - Penn State and Bloomsburg

You do not need to complete the Wyoming Area Scholarship Application to qualify for this scholarship. These are open to Wyoming Area graduating seniors and are given through the colleges. 

Two scholarships have been established in Francis and the late Joanne names. One scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student planning to enroll at Penn State University and another is awarded to a full time undergraduate student planning to enroll at Bloomsburg University. Criteria for selection have been established by the donors. The colleges select these scholarships. No application is needed!

Criteria: The student has achieved positive academic records, as demonstrated by above-average SAT scores and grades, or who manifest promise of academic success; who are active in extra-curricular activities; and who have a proven financial need. (Students must have filed the most recent Free Application for federal Student Aid – FASA- to be considered.) First preference shall be given to students who have graduated from Wyoming Area High School. Should it become necessary, the search may be broadened further to include students other than those from the above referenced high school.

 

Kathleen Keder Pitcavage Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Wyoming Area senior majoring in education at a 2 year or 4 year college or university. However, preference will be given to elementary education majors. Also considered will be such majors as speech pathology or any career that involves working with children in what would be considered an educational setting and which would involve some type of teaching.   If there is more than one recipient, the award will be divided equally among the recipients. The Kathleen Keder Pitcavage Memorial Scholarship selection committee will make the final decision on this award. An interview may be part of the selection process.

Essay Required: A solid essay of at least 500 words should address the following questions: How and when did your interest in teaching begin? What influenced it? Include in your essay why you feel you should be awarded this particular scholarship.

 

Pittston Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1982 Nursing/Health Care Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior accepted to a 2 or 4 year nursing college/university. Health Care majors will be considered but preference is for nursing majors.

Essay Required: In at least 500 words write a solid essay: How can I as a Registered Nurse make a difference in Health Care?

  

Reliable Transportation Scholarship  

The applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who plans on attending a certificate program, a trade or technical school, a community college or a 2 or 4 year college or university. 

There will be two awards: 

1. One award for a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is receiving Special Services while a WA student. All Majors will be considered. 

2. One for a graduating Wyoming Area senior who plans on working with special needs people in any capacity, to include but not limited to teaching, social work, therapist, nursing, etc. will be considered. 

ESSAY: Each applicant must submit a solid essay of at least 500 words based on one of the prompts below: 

1. Didge is a self-made man whose strongest attitude is: “If I can do it, you can too!”  How does this quote fit into your life? 

2. What has been a challenge or obstacle that you have met head on? How did you deal with it? What was the positive outcome for you?

  

John and Lola Rindgen Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a two or four (4) year college/university pursuing a career working with children. Consideration will be given to majors such as teaching, child social work, child psychology, therapist, librarian and speech pathology. Selection of the recipient of this award will be made by a selection committee appointed by Patricia. 

ESSAY: In a solid essay of at least 500 words explain why you have an interest in working with children telling how this interest developed.

  

Mike "Mr. R" Romanowski Math Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a graduating senior from Wyoming Area who was also a student in one of Mr. Romanowski’s math classes. The applicant must continue their education in a post-secondary arena in either a collegiate or trade/nursing school setting. In the event the money is not used for educational purposes, and/or the applicant does not attend college or a trade school within the year of graduation, the award must be returned to the Scholarship Trust.

 Requirements: Write a solid essay of at least 500 words using 1 or 2 of the following prompts. In the first line of your essay, indicate which prompt you used and which math class or classes Mr. Romanowski taught you in school.

  1. Tell us what you learned in Mr. R’s Class that you will carry with you in real life.

  2. How did Mr. Romanowski influence you? Give examples.

  3. What will you remember about Mr. Romanowski, and why did you select this memory?

  4. Of all the scholarships offered why did you select this particular one to apply for.  Perhaps Mr. Romanowski had a favorite saying he used in class that you will remember. Tell us what it is; and how it influenced you in a positive way with an example.

 

Rotary Club of Wyoming Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior with a GPA of at least 80 and actively involved in community service who will be attending a 2 or 4 year college/university, trade, vocational, technical school or a community college.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, detail what community service projects you have been involved in and explaining what personal impact that community service has had on you. Include specific examples on how you see themselves continuing to help others throughout your lifetime. An interview will be conducted of selected applicants.

The  Rutkoski Fencing and Merut Construction

Wyoming Area Scholarship

CRITERIA:This year the Rutkoski Fencing and Merut Construction scholarships which originated in 2020-2021 are once again being offered. These generous scholarships will be awarded to applicants pursuing a career in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or Accounting.. The applicants can be accepted to a trade school, technical school, community college, or a 2- or 4-year college or university. However, other careers/majors will be considered. The strength of the applicant pool plays an important role in selection. 

ESSAY: To apply for this Scholarship, Wyoming Area Graduating Seniors must submit a solid essay of at least 500 words by selecting 1 of the following prompts. Indicate your choice in the first sentence of your essay.

Anthony and Amelia Scalzo Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a trade or technical school; a community college, 2 or 4 year college/university. Applicant should show a love for their school and community by deed/services to each. It is understood that applicants show academic success in high school and have earned the respect of faculty as well as peers.

Essay Required: Write a solid essay of at least 500 words telling the selection committee your ambitions and why you have selected to apply for this particular scholarship. Include your employment history, as well as any obstacles you have had to deal with at an early age. How did you handle them?

 

James & Norma Serino Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is a successful student, a volunteer in the school community, possibly a member of a Wyoming Area athletic team, hardworking, well-behaved, and respectful. The student might have held a part-time job during high school. All majors will be considered. The applicant may be attending an accredited certificate program, a technical or trade school, a community college, or a two- or four-year college or university.

REQUIREMENTS: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, select one of the following prompts and tell the selection committee your thoughts on that prompt. Identify your choice in the first line of your essay.

  1. Describe a situation in which you were kind or loving or generous to someone. How did you feel and how did it help you develop into the person you are today?
  2. Why did you select this particular scholarship to apply for?
  3. Did you ever help someone whom you saw others treating unfairly? Tell us how you helped in this situation and what did you learn from it.
  4. What qualities do you believe you have to be successful in life? How did you develop them and tell us about any success you have experience as a result of developing these traits?

Jennifer A. Sidari, M.D. Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior who exhibits and shares Jenn’s selfless caring for others and her quest for excellence in the medical and health care professions. All applicants must have achieved a 90 cumulative GPA in high school, submit an essay for review and possibly attend an interview. The award will be granted in 2 parts: the first half will be awarded at the celebration and the second half upon completion of the first semester of college or trade school with a cumulative GPA of 3.50. The recipient will provide an official transcript to Mrs. Rabel of his/her first semester college/trade school grades who in turn will turn this transcript over to the Sidari Family for reimbursement to the recipient. 

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us: How important is it to continue to educate yourself in college or trade school and beyond and how will you pass your knowledge on to others?

 

The Devon Silva Memorial Scholarship

Winner of this scholarship will receive financial assistance at the beginning of each semester for up to four years depending on fulfilling the donor’s criteria. In order to receive the assistance in future semesters, student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher while enrolled as a FULL TIME student as defined by the college recipient is attending.

CRITERIA: Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted as a full time student to a trade school, technical college, community college or a four year college/university. All Majors will be considered. Financial need may be considered. An interview may be part of the selection process.

REQUIRED ESSAY: Choose one of the following essay prompts, and write a solid essay of at least 500 word. Identify the prompt you selected in the first line of your essay:

  1. Why are you continuing your education and what is your goal?
  2. What would you need to accomplish in your life to consider yourself successful?
  3. What are your strengths and weaknesses as a person which you are going to bring with you to college?

Stephen E. Sokach Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been enrolled in the Learning Support or Special Education programs at WA and who will be attending a professional, trade or technical school as well as a college or University.

 Essay RequiredIn a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us the benefit of receiving this scholarship in aiding you in your academic pursuits.

 

Eric Speicher Jr. Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship will be given to a Wyoming Area graduating senior who will be attending an accredited 4 year college/university and who is planning to enter a medical or any science related field, and additionally, preference will be given to a member of a Wyoming Area sports team. Student must have a minimum cumulative (Grades 9, 10, 11 and Semester 1 of Grade 12) QPA of at least 90. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, read the following and answer the questions: Throughout the later part of Eric’s life he was faced with many obstacles. He exhibited courage and strength throughout this adversity and was able to impact change around him. What have you done to overcome difficulties in your life and how will you use this scholarship and your educational endeavors to impact change for the better?

Valley Lodge #499 F & A M Scholarship 

Applications will be announced sometime after January 1st - see Mrs. Rabel in the guidance office for this scholarship if you have a relative who is a member of the Masons.

 

VFW Post 396 Wyoming Scholarship 

This scholarship is sponsored by the VFW Post 396 in Wyoming. Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has handed in official commitment papers to any branch of the military service to Mrs. Rabel by March 31, 2021. All service committed seniors will receive a $100 award. 

Required: Complete only American Legion Page for this application and attach a copy of the official ENLISTMENT papers as proof of your commitment to the branch of the armed service which you have joined. Enlistment papers and Completed American Addendum must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel by February 3, 2021 and the official commitment  papers must be handed in by March 31, 2021.

 

Frank S. Viola Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted into trade school, technical college, community college two or a four year college/university. Financial need may be considered. An interview may be part of the selection process.

Warrior Pride - Class of 1989 Scholarship 

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who will be attending a trade, technical, 2 year community college or a 4 year college/university. Each applicant must have been an ACTIVE participating member of a school/community service group and/or an athletic team which has enhanced Warrior Pride. 

NOTE: Complete only the WARRIOR PRIDE Application page and attach your essay to apply for this award.  

To become a candidate for this award, a Wyoming Area graduating senior must have participated in a sport, cheerleading, and/or community service projects through participation in Key Club and/or Student Council during high school to include senior year if possible or if unavailable due to the pandemic then focus will be on grades 9-11.  Each applicant must have a minimum cumulative non-weighted QPA of 80 to qualify.  

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words address ONE of the following: 

1. You shared a kindness with a person who was struggling  

2. You were a positive role model in our school.  

3. You reached to help someone in need  

4. You acted like a person who promotes a positive school environment and atmosphere.

Amanda J. Weed Memorial Scholarship 

The family of Amanda Josephine Weed is offering a $1000 scholarship to a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or university. All majors will be considered. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words please tell us: Why do you deserve the Amanda Josephine Weed Memorial Scholarship? Name a difficult obstacle you overcame in your life and how that was achieved. 

 

West Pittston Community Ambulance Association Scholarship

The applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who resides in West Pittston and who has a "Strong Volunteer Spirit",  is in good standing academically and has been accepted to any health care program at an established educational facility ranging from a certificate program, trade or technical school or a 2 or 4-year college/university. The applicant must be interested in the medical field on any level. Applicant may want to be an EMT or a doctor, nurse, a pharmacist or OT, a dental hygienist, etc. These are only examples; there are many other health professions that may qualify. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words please tell us about your "strong volunteer spirit" and what has motivated you to pursue a career in the medical field.

  

West Pittston American Legion 1st Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Post #542 Memorial Scholarship  

This scholarship is sponsored by the West Pittston American Legion 1st Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Post #542. Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has handed in official commitment papers to any branch of the military service to Mrs. Rabel before April 3rd. All service committed seniors will receive a $100 award. 

Required: Complete only American Legion Page for this application and attach a copy of the official ENLISTMENT papers as proof of your commitment to the branch of the armed service which you have joined.  Completed American Legion Addendum must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel by February 3, 2021Enlistment papers must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel by the end of March 2021.

 

West Pittston Cherry Blossom Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has a minimum unweighted Cumulative QPA of 82 and who resides in West Pittston and has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college, 2 or 4 year college/university.

 Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, what has living in West Pittston meant to you and how has it influenced your life?

 

West Pittston High School Alumni Association Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who lives within the boundaries of the original West Pittston School District (to include West Pittston, Exeter Township, Harding and Falls) and has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college 2 or 4 year college or university. It will be based on merit

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us how you have applied the motto of the West Pittston High School from 1954-1966: Right Attitude Means Success” - RAMS which keyed to the name of the school’s sport teams. In addition the applicant must also describe how this award would help him/her pursue their chosen field of study. 
                                                   (Be sure to use RAMS: “Right Attitude Means Success” in your essay.)

 

West Pittston Tomorrow Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who lives in West Pittston (for at least the senior year) and who has been accepted to a trade, technical, community college 2 or 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to environmental science majors or some type of community outreach study area. Other majors will be considered.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, tell us about any community service project you have been involved with, what your involvement was, why you got involved in that specific community service project and what impact did your service have on both you and the community.

 

West Pittston Women’s Club Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating female who resides in West Pittston or Harding and has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college 2 or 4 year college/university. Financial need will be considered. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, describe how your involvement in your school, church and community has influenced your life. Be sure to complete the Wyoming Area Financial Statement found in Downloads - addendums.

 

West Wyoming American Legion Morning Star Post #904 Scholarship

This scholarship is sponsored by the West Wyoming American Legion Morning Star Post #904. Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has made a commitment to enter or who has entered military service. The selection will be based on applicant with the highest QPA of the pool of service committed seniors.

Required: Complete only American Legion Page for this application and attach a copy of the ENLISTMENT papers as proof of your commitment to the armed service, Enlistment papers and the Completed American Legion Addendum must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel by February 3, 2021 and Enlistment papers by March 31, 2021.

 

David J. Williams III Memorial Scholarship: The “WARRIOR” Award

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to any accredited trade school, technical college, community college or 4 year college/university. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, describe the significance of being awarded the David J. Williams III Memorial Scholarship and specifically describe what you have done to help Wyoming Area continue the traditions and ideals set by the Class of 1967.

 

Dr. Doris E. Wyllie Science Award

No application is necessary to win this award. This scholarship is awarded to the Outstanding Senior Science Student in the Wyoming Area graduating class. The award will be awarded to the Wyoming Area graduating senior with the highest weighted average in Science and who successfully completed Science courses in 9th, 10th , 11th and 12th grades.

 

Wyoming Area Boys and Girls Soccer Parents Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been a member of the boys’ or girls’ soccer teams for three years one of which is as a senior if possible or if unavailable due to the pandemic then focus will be on grades 9-11. Applicant must be planning to attend a 2 or 4 year trade/technical/community college or college or university.

Essay Required: in a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us how playing a team sport such as soccer shaped the person you are today.

 

Wyoming Area Class of 1969 Scholarship

CRITERIA: Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is attending an accredited certificate program, a technical or trade school, a community college, or a two- or four-year college or university. All majors will be considered.

REQUIREMENTS: Be sure to complete the WA Class of 1969 Addendum on the Scholarship website under DOWNLOADS -APPLICATION.  After CAREFULLY reading over the Website DETAILS description of this scholarship and without expressing your personal political beliefs, choose one of the 2 formats:

  1. In a solid ESSAY of at least 500 words, select one of the following prompts, indicate which you selected in the first sentence of your essay. Your essay must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel in her packet and in your Application packet.                                        
                                                                             OR
  2. Use a 3-5 minute VIDEO to reply to your selected prompt. After you introduce yourself, indicate which prompt you are responding to.

Prompts: Choose ONE of these prompts below:

  1. How can your generation change the current climate of division and anger?

  2. How do we call a “time out” to look at ourselves and realize the strengths we share and have always possessed as a free society?

 Wyoming Area Class of 1984

No application is necessary to win this award. This scholarship is awarded to the 12th ranked student in the WA senior class. Rank will be based on the cumulative GPA Grades 9, 10, 11 12 at the time senior rankings become available (sometime in May, 2020).

 

Wyoming Area Class of 2020 “Gives Back” Scholarship 

No application is necessary to win this award. The Wyoming Area graduating senior who is ranked 20th in the graduating class of 2021 will receive this award. Rank will be based on the cumulative GPA Grades 9, 10, 11 12 at the time senior rankings become available (sometime in May, 2021).

 

Wyoming Area Faculty Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has declared a major/minor in Education and has been accepted into an education curriculum at a 2 or 4 year college/university. Also considered will be such majors as speech pathology or any career that involves working with children in what would be considered an educational setting and which would involve some type of teaching.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, tell when you developed your interest in becoming a teacher; identify any experiences you had related to this career choice. Include school/ community activities that you have been involved in that will impact your teaching career. 

 

Wyoming Area Key Club Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is an active member of the Wyoming Area Key Club. Complete the WA Scholarship Application.

Essay Required: A 1 page essay explaining what Key Club has meant to you. 

  

Wyoming Area Kiwanis Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is a member of the WA Key Club

Requirement: Complete attached form (Kiwanis Page) found at the end of the application. 

Essay Required: Please answer the following question in at least 500 words:
What aspect of your key club experience (project, office, or other) do you feel has made the most significant difference in your life and why?

 

Wyoming Area Lady Warriors Basketball Scholarship

CRITERIAApplicant must be a graduating senior who has been an active member of the Wyoming Area Girls Basketball team for four years (grades 9-12) if possible or if unavailable due to the pandemic then focus will be on grades 9-11 and must be attending a trade or technical school, community college, or 4 year college/university. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA (grades 9-12) of at least 85.

ESSAY REQUIRED: Choose one of the topics below and write a solid essay of at least 500 words. Identify the question you are answering in the first line of your essay. Essays will be scored by independent reviewers outside of the WA community.

1. Describe what it means to be a good teammate & offer an example of when you acted as a good teammate

2. Describe what the word sportsmanship means to you & offer an example of when you displayed sportsmanship

3. How have the lessons learned on the basketball court impacted your choice to pursue a college education? 

4. How has basketball played a role on making you the person/student you are today? 

5. Why basketball?

  

Wyoming Area Student Council Jean Matys Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college, 2 or 4 year college/university.  Applicant should have demonstrated strong leadership qualities

Essay Required: What contributions have you made to Wyoming Area as a student body leader?

  

Wyoming Area Warrior Wrestling Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been a dedicated member of the Wyoming Area Wrestling team and has competed BOTH the Junior and Senior year wrestling season. 

Criteria: Applicant must be a member in good standing of the Wyoming Area Wrestling Team during both the Junior and Senior years of high school and have passing grades in major courses. 

Essay Required: In a solid essay, of at least 250 words, tell us how the sport of wrestling has taught you to excel in all areas of your life: academically, socially and athletically.

  

Wyoming Volunteer Hose Company #2 Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior looking to further their education. Preference will be given to a student who aspires for a career in law enforcement, nursing, fire service, or any community based career. All students are encouraged to take the challenge and apply for this scholarship.

Essay Required; In a solid essay of at least 500 words, answer the following prompt: Tell us about a memorable community service that you were a part of  and how did performing that service influence your decision on your career path.

 

Josette Yakobitis Memorial Scholarship 

Criteria: Josette’s children, all Wyoming Area graduates, and her husband, Jerry, are very pleased to offer this scholarship in memory of Josette to a Wyoming Area graduating senior, who much like Josette is a kind, loving, generous person; or one who sees himself/herself successful in life or one who may have a special place in his/her heart for animals who may be abused or lost. Applicants may be those who are enrolled in a certificate program, trade or technical school, community college, or 2 or 4 year college/university.

Required Essay: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, chose one of the following prompts and tell the selection committee your thoughts. (Identify your choice in the first line of your essay.)

1.   Describe a situation in which you were kind or loving or generous to someone. How did you feel and how did it help you develop into the person you are today?

2.   Describe a situation in which you showed compassion for animals, especially those who were abused or lost. How did you feel and how did it help you develop into the person you are today?

3.   What qualities do you believe you possess to be successful in life? How did you develop them and tell us about any success you have experienced as a result of developing these traits?
