GOD, FAMILY, FRIENDS, COUNTRY & WYOMING AREA! Words that come to mind when we think of our brother, Sam. Our beloved brother Sam “Aggie” Agolino, Jr. Passed away on September 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Sam was a loving, kind and generous person. There was never a person around that Sam wouldn’t or couldn’t help. He was always there, you could count on him. Sam never judged people and always had a friendly smile for all he saw and met. He always tried to see the good in people, not the bad. Sam loved Wyoming Area. He graduated with the Class of 1976 and never forgot his Alma Mater. He could often be seen at various athletic games. He was a true Warrior as far as Wyoming Area goes. There were times when Sam wasn’t feeling 100% but he could be seen at the football games sitting in his car. He once said his ashes should be spread out over the football field. Sam was not only a Warrior concerning Wyoming Area, he was a Warrior in fighting his cancer. He never gave up. He fought it well and hard. His was a life of courage and strength especially the last 6 years of his life, one taken too soon. Sam lived life to the fullest. On a daily basis, he enjoyed sitting on the bench in front of Agolino’s Restaurant talking to people going in or coming out and talking about everything from A to Z. He enjoyed people but most of all making them feel wanted and comfortable. One of Sam’s favorite memories was a chat with then presidential candidate Barack Obama at a local diner back in September, 2008. The topic of their conversation was politics which was one of his favorite things to not only talk about but to be involved in. He not only loved Wyoming Area, he also loved his town, West Pittston. Sam had a very strong faith. When the time came when he could no longer attend Mass, he would always watch Sunday mass on his TV and also enjoyed listening to Mother Teresa and saying the rosary along with her. Sam also had a personal friendship with Rev. Paul McDonnell. Many times Father Paul would drop in for a visit at Sam’s house, especially during Sam’s illness. They engaged in some lively conversations sprinkled with laughter. As Sam’s health declined, Father Paul offered Sam some comfort and consolation but they still enjoyed their laughter. Sam had been employed as a Supervisor of Building and Grounds at the Luzerne County Court House for 23 years and had helped his brother, Joe, at Agolino’s Restaurant. Same also served 2 terms on the Wyoming Area School Board. Same loved everything involving politics. He would enjoy talking politics for hours at a time both on the national and community levels. Even though Sam is no longer with us, his spirit still loves on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. We will never forget him. “You taught us well, Sam, you were the best, you are a hard act to follow.” Sam’s brother, Joe and his sister, Marie have established 2 generous $1,000 scholarships in his honor. It will be awarded to a deserving Wyoming Area graduating senior. An Agolino family selection committee will decide on the recipient.
