Joey Marrone, an Exeter native, is a graduate of Wyoming Area’s class of 2010. While at Wyoming Area, he was an active member of several organizations, including the Drama Club, Student Council, FBLA, and the class of 2010’s school board representative. After graduating, Joey attended the University of Tampa where he graduated with a degree in Advertising and PR. After college Joey began his career in software. During this time, he met his now husband David Cristin during his final year of medical school. After David had completed medical school from Florida State University, Joey and David moved to Denver, CO where they currently reside. Once in Denver, Joey continued to venture in the Startup world. He is now an employee of Salesforce via their acquisition of Slack Technologies, Inc. David is a practicing Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at GI of the Rockies in Denver. When not in Denver, the two can often be found in Summit County, CO where they enjoy skiing the slopes of Breckenridge and Vail in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Joey and David understand the importance of giving back to the communities that have helped them shape the men they have become today. Together, they formed the Marrone-Cristin Foundation, with a goal of helping students and community members of their prior Alumnus. This is the second year that the Marrone-Cristin foundation is participating in the Wyoming Area scholarship program and couldn’t be more excited to continue this annual opportunity. This year Joey and David are offering scholarships to students specifically interested in advancing their education in the Technology or Medical fields. However, other majors will also be considered. Joey and David have such passion for the respective industries and want to continue to help the next generation of young professionals that will soon be joining them in the field. Joey was born and raised in Exeter where he learned to ride a bike, hit his first baseball, help his neighbors and his community. Reconnecting with his youth, he and David are continuing to help his childhood community by giving an award to the highest ranked WA student who currently resides in Exeter in addition with their scholarship. Amount: TBD CRITERIA for Selection:This scholarship is for all Wyoming Area graduating senior who will be attending a 4 year college or university and who will be majoring in the medical field or technology. However other majors will be considered. Special consideration will be given to students identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community. ESSAY: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, respond to the first prompt as well as one of the additional prompt choices listed below. 1. Joey and David attribute much of their success to their resilience and grit. What is a difficult hardship you have endured as a student or are currently going through now as a student? How did you persevere through it or how are you currently handling the situation? What did you learn from this experience? (Required) AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: 2. Who are you? Why should we select you? What makes you so wildly different from the other applicants? 3. Leadership is a critical part of success. Thinking about your time in school, when was a time you stood up for someone that needed your help? How did that make you feel and what was the outcome? What does true leadership mean to you? 4. Who inspires you? Why? |
